Class trip (part 1)

Class trip turned out to be great. Got back two days ago, having had great fun although became considerably poorer, with much spending still left to do. Anyway a brief summary of the trip is as follows:

Day 1 (23/05)

Left for Glasgow with Oink a day earlier than the rest to do some catching up with Sean and more importantly to sample good food before joining up with the class. Landed at about lunch time and ended up eating chicken tikka in one of the Yate's in the city after dropping our bags at Sean's place. Food tasted good and was of great value because of the two meals for 5.95 pounds offer. Then did some walking around and shopping for souvenirs before a quick tour of Glasgow Uni. Then off to a birthday dinner for a friend of Sean's in Strata, a fancy restaurant in Glasgow. Opted for the two course meal, with duck liver pate' and oat cakes for the starter and whole baked lemon sole for the main course. The pate' with oat cakes was interestingly tasty and the main course unexpectedly turned out to be a whole fish, complete with bones and fins and not just the fillet. Ended up performing tedious surgeon-like manoeuvres to separate flesh from bone while the others (Sean's classmates) were busy munching away on their steaks and grilled chickens. By the time I started consuming the damn fish, some people were already contemplating dessert. Despite the rather simple taste, I think the fish dish was still worth it. Maybe it's been way too long since I ate that much of fish. Disappointingly had to retire early as all three of us, Sean, Oink and I were just too darn tired.

Day 2 (24/05)

Woke up early, packed up and left for the city centre. Walked around again while contemplating lunch. Sean suggested chinese buffet but on our way there, we got distracted and ended up in a Malaysian restaurant, much to my delight. Sean had pad thai, Oink opted for Nasi Lemak and I went for a much missed plate of 'wat tan hor'. Food turned out to be good, truly satisfying and left me wishing I had four stomachs, just so I could have gobbled up more... much, much more.

Then more walking around before settling down for a cup of coffee while waiting for the arrival of the Corkonians. Finally they arrived and together we hopped onto the train to Edinburgh. Almost an hour later we checked into the hostel and by then some of the lads were already out, to catch Munster play in the Heineken Cup final which they eventually won. The class by then had split up. Oink and I plus some others, including M'sians, Sings and one Botswanian ended up together and made our way to the main street in the city, Princes St. After much deliberation we embarked on a pursuit for Haggis, a Scottish delicacy made up of sheep's lung among other things. The only problem was that most of the pubs/bars that we went to hadn't enough room all 12 of us, so we had to split up. Oink and I ended up in Wetherspoon's where there were not only good food and drink offers, but also Haggis! So a great big (oily) feast we had, before finishing up 3 bottles of wine and a good few pints. The company was brilliant and there was much to talk and laugh about. By the time we were done, it was close to midnight and most of us were wrecked from the travelling. So we headed back to the hostel and halfway through, Victor left his mark with a pool of vomit and yours truly started exhibiting an unsteady gait, much to the entertainment of the others. Then Keletso, our favourite Botswanian told his fence joke, which left most of us in stiches. Reached the hostel, quickly washed up and was completely knocked out in a matter of minutes. Most of the other classmates came back way later after much merriment, but I was just too tired to notice.
