Updates

Currently midway through the second lecture block of the year which has been quite exhausting so far, 0830-1800 almost everyday!

Last rotation was pretty good, two weeks of ENT in SIVUH (Rob Wormald rocks, woohoo!) followed by a week each for urology and vascular surgery at the Mercy. Btw I think the Mercy sucks big time; it is by far the most confusing hospital that I have ever set my foot in, kept getting lost in that damned building every single day that I was there.

The past few weekends have been pretty fruitful as well, notably the jazz weekend 2 weeks ago. Was out that Friday for a gig at Cyprus Avenue, the Director were playing, an Irish band which are quite big among the locals. I thought their performance on that night was so-so only.

The next morning headed off to Dublin really early for the Dublin Games. Went as far as the quater-finals in a day filled with missed oppurtunities and wasted chances. Galway's first team won the tournament in a dramatic final match against a UCD team. Btw Pat was part of the Cork girls' team who were crowned champions. Came back to Cork that same day with the lads.

Was out again the next day to catch more live music. Ended up in Crane Lane Theatre for a free gig by a really funky band from the UK, Kava Kava. Hopefully they'll drop by Cork more often in the future. Right after that caught the Hot Guitars at the Mulligan's which was pretty good as well before finishing the night off at the Bier Haus.

Monday was Deepavali, called family in KL and Ipoh, and spent much of the day in reminiscence of celebration at home.

Then midweek there was a Med Cup game against the Graduate Entry class, which we won 1-0 thanks to Abdullah's never-say-die attitude. The result ensured that we will be in our second final in a row and have a go at defending the title. Friday came and the final of Med Cup 2008 took place between the Fourth and Third Meds who were in their third final in as many years. Weren't as lucky this time around, got beaten 1-0 . After a brilliant start to the game, we paid the price for not converting our early chances. The fact that we were playing a lot of high balls didn't help our cause either and made things difficult for the lads up front. There was little to separate both sides and they only marginally beat us in terms of determination and converted their first chance of the game from a corner which ultimately made the difference. Still, there was much to be proud of for our team, especially for the fact that we conceded only twice during this campaign. We'll be back next year I'm sure.

The following day, had a belated Deepavali potluck at my place. There was a big turn out of about 25 of the usual people, who brought all sorts of food. Had a go at cooking chana masala for the first time and the outcome was pretty good. All in all it was a pretty good day with many happy people and there was enough leftover to last us till Monday. :)

Then last week came and flew by and it's the weekend yet again. Spent the afternoon helping Pat out with her Ang Ku project which sadly wasn't quite successful. Also was lucky enough to have Curry Laksa for lunch thanks to Hong Tak and his gf, hearts of gold they have indeed. And I refuse to talk about Man Utd's humiliation today.

Oh yes, almost forgot, caught Dirty Pretty Things in action on Wed at Cyprus Avenue (again!). Their performance was awesome and the atmosphere was unbelievable as well, especially when they played crowd favourites like Bang, Bang You're Dead and The Enemy. It's a real pity that they are disbanding.

Alright, so that's that, should have been hitting the books really hardcore for the exam in Dec but hmmm...
